Description
The epitome of ‘ceramica rustica’
Origin: Puglia early 1900s
Dating back to the early 1900s, this terracotta cooking pot with 2 handles is traditionally called ‘pignate’. Usally the upper part of these pots were glazed so they could be wiped clean after use.
The antique pot with its spherical body and unique handle is typical of what was used in the whole of southern Italy for cooking legumes, slow cooked over fire for hours.
Remove loose dirt with a soft bristle brush; a cloth may snag on fragile surfaces. Washing with tap water is acceptable, but distilled or deionized water is preferable. Water temperature should be lukewarm or cooler.
