$123.00
Description
A sturdy and charming hand made piece perfectly suited to being used as its original purpose at the table, or mounted to the wall decoratively.
Origin: Grottaglie, Puglia early 1900s
Dating back to the late 1800s, the blue floral design or ‘righe & stelle’ (stars & stripes) pattern around the edge, is characteristic of Grottaglie - a town famous for its age-old ceramic craft.
These farmhouse-style ceramics would have been used for domestic purposes up until the mid-1900s, and specifically to serve a family during meal times (traditionally the family would eat off the same plate beginning with the father and ending with the children).
Traditional colours of ink blue flower and maroon stripe set against the buttermilk-hue glaze base.
Approx 23cm diameter
Remove loose dirt with a soft bristle brush; a cloth may snag on fragile surfaces. Washing with tap water is acceptable, but distilled or deionized water is preferable. Water temperature should be lukewarm or cooler.
